i haven't had the chance to post in forever.

i moved into my new apartment a couple weeks ago... it's kinda boring, cuz there's nothing really going on, unlike at ZBT. but i guess there's good things and bad things about every place. i'm looking forward to rooming w/ simon and christian tho. we found a huuuge 3BR for 2100 a month near central square!! sweet.

i started teaching for kaplan. i had two classes in a row on sunday, and i ran over on time. bleeeh. it's crazy that u can run out of time on 3 hour classes. those lessons are way too packed.

i also got a wii. weee!

i'm halfway through my 4 finals in a row final ordeal as an MIT undergrad. after the test i crawled back home and into my bed, where i remained comatose until 11PM. now i have to study all night for my orgo final tomorrow afternoon (completely ignoring studying for the bio final i have in the morning). what joy!

connie came this weekend! we played beer pong and kings at the end of the term party. yay.

now i have to study for my four final exams. also, i have to prepare for my first KAPLAN lesson plan thingy. bleeeeeeh.

also i think i might just live at ZBT this summer. its too late to find something in June. argh

incidentally, i should be studying right now.

also, risak said i sounded really arrogant cuz i was all like 'i want to go to a GOOD med school' ...except yea she's ALWAYS like that, saying i sound like a jerk or an asshole. whatevs. i just want to try, and if i get in that's great but if i dont, i'll still be happy to go to med school at all, cuz im definitely psyched about being a doctor!

i've listened to the strokes - "Last Night" like 20 times on iTunes already. omg i love that song.

thanks michele for lending me ur orgo notes (i dont think she reads my lj but whatever) ...also, i think ur really cute <3 (good thing she doesn't, lol)

mike got in off the waitlist for Harvard's MD/PhD program. lucky bastard :P so he's turning down UCSF MD/PhD (having already turned down Hopkins MD/PhD earlier this month). i know this girl who's just worried about getting into med school, so she's freaking out. Also, she won't say what her MCAT score is, just that it's 'no good!". what the hell is it w/ ppl not wanting other ppl to know their MCAT scores or GPAs or whatever, and then complaining and shit. at least say what it is so u can get some real advice, instead of just whining. god i really hate premeds.

after a cursory search on craigslist, i can't find a suitable apartment for rent that's available in june. i think i'd better start looking for stuff in freaking september. damn, it looks like i might be staying at ZBT for the summer, which sucks. oh well maybe a miracle will happen....

have u ever tried peanut butter ramen? it's pretty interesting... u cook it w/o the soup base, drain the water, and add peanut butter and soy sauce. it's surprisingly tasty, but a little heavy.. also, add lightly steamed bean sprouts and/or scallions for additional flavor.

semiformal was really fun

i got the kaplan job, yay

i need to look for an apartment still. if connie gets a job in boston then we're gonna get an apartment together yay!

shit i dont think i was perky enough during my Kaplan interview. i hear back from them in a couple of days, but i dont think i'm going to get it.

connie might be coming to boston to work at MGH or brigham and women's! that would be awesoooome especially if we can room together.

semiformal this friday... omg there's so much shit i have to do by next week tho.

i'm slacking off in lab... bleeeeeeh i can't wait to get out of this lab. all i do is make freaking rat/mouse drives. SO boring.

i've been reading about how freaking hard it is for students now to get into harvard and other ivy league schools on nytimes.com.. is it really that hard? there's a lot more graduating seniors, also, theyre all applying to more schools. college is totally the new high school. eventually nobody'll be able to get a decent job w/o a college degree, which is a bad thing, cuz not everybody needs to go to college. also, i think i probably got into MIT cuz i'm from alabama lol. i guess being from alabama has some advantages..

did u know ducks have spirical penises, to fit the spirical vaginal canals of female ducks? they apparently evolve in concert, and other ducks can't even fit their penises in, so they can't really have sex. also, the female duck vagina has like random offbranching pockets where the sperm gets trapped, and she can expell it if she doesn't want to be inseminated by any one particular duck.

i passed the audition for Kaplan, so all that's left is an interview and then i'm in. i think i'm going to teach for a year or so and then take the MCAT again, cuz seriously, a 10 on bio just isn't good enough :(

hmmm, school's almost over, which means i'm about to die from all the final projects and finals. i have 2 final projects, a UROP paper, and 4 finals. not to mention another test.

i'm starting to look for apartments weee. i want one that allows dogs, cuz i'm TOTALLY getting my westie.

damn i feel like all i'm talking about lately is jobs.. i got an offer from MGH, but i think i'm going to go to beth israel. ok, the end.

i need to start looking for an apartment.

i just taught my last SAT Prep class :'( i'll miss those lil kids. i wish i could do it again, but they only let MIT students do it. and KAPLAN ppl r prolly gonna be really old. at least my class was pretty old, i think the average age was like 25 or more.

i lost like 7 dollars in poker and won it all back, lol. playing $.60 games, so that's actually a pretty good amount of games. i think i'll move up to the $1 games, cuz the skill level's prolly the same, i'll just be winning more money. woot. also, books help here. it's kinda weird, i guess i'm the sorta guy who can learn a lot from books. same with chess, i read like tons of chess books and got pretty decent. but the difference w/ poker is that u can win money lol. dave josh and anand r really into poker these days too, so hopefully we'll all get really good and win lots of money buahaha.

Heroes is back on NBC! last week's episode was so good.

so, i have at least one offer, from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which is probably my top choice right now, so this are looking really great :) i'd be sort of a code monkey/research slave for 4 PI's, who all have a bunch of different research interests. One guy does PD, one does alzheimer's, one works with the blind, another does autistic ppl.. so pretty much, I'll get a ton of exposure to lots of different fields. i'm so excited! ...also, the guy who i'm replacing also graduated from MIT, and has about the same GPA and MCAT, he was course 9, and he's goin to stanford this year, buahaha. Anyway, so i'm really happy about how things turned out.

in other news, i've been thinking about the pros and cons of being single vs in a relationship lately, and being in that relationship w/ clare actually made me see some of the pros of being single, such as lots of freedom, and being in the game! and also no issues with having lots of friends who are girls. also, it's let me know what kind of feelings i SHOULD feel in a relationship, so im not really rushed anymore and i know how i have to feel about someone before i will get into a relationship with them.

also, i've started reading up on poker.. maybe i can get really good and earn a little bit of extra money.

finally, for my KAPLAN audition i think i'm going to do a presentation on body language during presentations. there's a metalecture for them, lol.

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Midland. The Midland (please don't confuse with "Midwest") itself is the neutral zone between the North and South. But just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from there. Since it is considered a neutral, default, "non-regional" accent you could easily be from someplace without its own accent, like Florida, or a big city in the South like Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

me and sally had takeout from this thai restaurant in central square last nite called pepper sky. i keep thinking vanilla sky lol. i had the jade noodles, which were really salty, but still goooood. i really miss surin west's coconut soup tho.

so, anyway we went back to her apartment to watch Love Actually, but like 1/3 of the way through all her roommates came back from shopping for wedding dresses, lol. my TA is getting married, and is the one who was subletting to sally. so i'd been hanging out in my TA's room w/ sally like the whole time and i didn't even know it. it was pretty funny, especially cuz they were talking about going to a strip bar for the bachelorette party, and my TA's like 'omg my student's going to spread so many rumors about me in class' lol. damn right!

two of sally's roommates r getting married, one indian and yuanzhen, who's chinese.. and they're both marrying white guys. i think the indian chick's having 2 weddings, one western and one indian. man, that's so cool. i should get married to an indian chick just so i can have an indian wedding.

every time i go over to sally's apt we end up talking about stuff for like a couple of hours. she was clipping her nails while i was working on a paper on her bed. i think we're bordering max comfort level there. its kind of cool to have a friend like that whos a girl tho.

clare dumped me. it was a very short-lived relationship, which ended abruptly when she learned that my philosophy on marriage was a 'get to know you better, and only then consider marriage'... which seemed to maybe clash with her 'dating is for finding ur future husband' philosophy. i'm not too torn up. i think my mug name for ZBT will be 'one night boyfriend' tho.. that'd accurately describe me in at least two situations now, lol.

in other news, i've interviewed at MGH and Beth Israel for research assistant positions. Also, at Kanwisher lab, and Sinha's lab at MIT. It looks like i have a couple of choices to make, and i really don't know how to weigh the pros and cons here...

questions:
1. one year or two?
2. clinical or MIT?

I think that clinical work would probably be the best choice, first because of the exposure i'd get of the medical field, (or at least what i can say is exposure... i might end up in a dark room coding MATLAB regardless of where i end up).. so the choice is between one or two year commitments.

if i spent one year, i could get into med school one year early, but it means that i'd be working my ass off, cuz i would be starting at a new lab, taking leftover premed classes, and applying to med school at the same time. i think it might be doable, but just barely.

if i took two years, i could probably already have some publications out by the time i apply, and i can take it a little easier. also, i'd probably get some shadowing experience in, as well as a pretty sweet (hopefully) recommendation letter from some good MD's at Harvard med school. But, it's an extra 5% of my life, and i'd be getting a real job that much later.

i dunno... i think at this point i'm realllly on the fence, because i really want to just go to med school, but i also want to get into a pretty good one (i'm shooting for stanford or harvard), so it's a tough choice. bleh.

on old olympus' towering top, a finn and german viewed some hops.

i have to memorize all 12 cranial nerves, plus what areas they ennervate, whether they're sensory or motor, and where they start and end. thank god for mnemonics.

so i finally got some info about what i'm going to be doing next year.. if sinha gets his proposal approved, then i get to work in his lab yay. did u know it costs 40k to fund an RA? there's like 17k worth of overhead, and i'd be getting paid like 23K. but at least it's something, plus sinha's lab is like my top top choice, woot.

but i should still look for other stuff just in case. also, i know which classes i'll be taking and when, so everything looks better now. whew.

i went to a club w/ matt cyriac last night... it was really fun for me.. it really IS all about not caring, and just talking to girl after girl w/o any embarassment. also, i got free shots from two girls.

the goukon was pretty good too, i talked to all the girls and they were pretty cool :)

hmm... sally's sorta mad at me cuz i asked shuai to senior ball instead of her. and as a result she has to ask this 32 year old asian guy she's gone on a few dates with. who still lives w/ his parents. needless to say i feel pretty bad, but the worst thing is i dont even think i want to go, but feel like i have to, cuz it's like prom or something.

also, for a 3rd date w/ clare, i asked her to come to a ramen restaurant w/ my gay roommate and his boyfriend. i think i'm unconsciously trying to sabotage this whole thing. also, we're planning to go to animeboston 2007 in a couple of weeks

i'm organizing a goukon w/ my friend from wellesley. basically, i'm getting like 4 of my guy friends and she's getting 4 of her girl friends, and we're all going to a restaurant for dinner. this should be interesting, esp. since i think most of clam's friends are little asian girls

i'm back from spring break! ...only physically. i've been sitting on my ass reading nytimes.com like the whole time i've been back.

mike got sick the day after we got to margate, NJ, so he had to leave, which was sad. also, sleeping in till like 12 every day was fun :) especially since i normally only get one day a week to do that this semester. god i love sleeping in like that.

also, i've decided that trains are the most underappreciated mode of transportation. i took a train from NJ to philadelphia and then from philly to boston, and it was so much greater than taking a freaking bus, it was unbelievable. u get sooo much more room, also, you're not left to the whims of crazy bus drivers who weave in and out of NYC traffic like a madman. also, got some drawing in on the train, which i haven't done in like forever. :)

unfortunately, i think my aunt and uncle want me to go to UPenn for med school now, cuz i'd be really close to them. but sad to say, i think philadelphia is the. slummiest. city. i've ever seen. there're just streets upon streets of dilapidated row homes that look like they're about to fall over. it's just really depressing.
